Connect your wholesaler logins once, and those columns stop showing the national capture and start showing what your practice actually pays, so every margin on the page is worked out on your own invoice prices.
Your logins never leave your PC. We never see your prices. If anything at all fails, the page falls straight back to the national picture and says so.
What it changes
RxMargin shows you the market. Every price on the dashboard is a captured national price, which is the right number for comparing wholesalers against each other and the wrong number for working out what a line earns your dispensary, because your account terms are not the national ones.
RxConnect is a small browser extension that closes that gap for the six wholesalers it supports: AAH, Alliance, PSUK, Trident, Clarity and Sigma. Once one is connected, that wholesaler's column carries your own account prices, the cheapest-supplier pick is re-decided on those prices, and every margin figure on the page is recalculated on what you pay rather than on what the market pays.
Every cell tells you which it is. A cell showing your own price is marked yours. A cell we could not price on your account keeps the national figure and is marked national. A row never mixes the two without saying so.
What it does not change
- Nothing else on the dashboard moves. The Drug Tariff side, the concessions, the volume figures and every other wholesaler stay exactly as they are.
- Your view settings still rule. Clawback, advance payment and the dispensing fee apply exactly as before, on top of your prices instead of on top of the national ones.
- It covers only the wholesalers you have actually connected. Every other supplier column stays national, and is still labelled national.
- It can never place an order. It can put a line into your wholesaler's basket and take a line back out, when you ask it to from the dashboard. It can never reach a checkout, confirm, pay or submit anything: adding and removing lines are the only changes it can make at all, and you place every order yourself on the wholesaler's own site, after you have looked at the basket.
Setting it up
Three steps, on the computer you use for ordering. Most people are done inside two minutes.
Add it to your browser
It is out for Google Chrome and for Microsoft Edge, so whichever of the two you order in, the button below is the one to press. There is nothing to install on a server, nothing for anyone else at the practice to do, and no new password to remember.
Each button opens that browser's own store in a new tab. Install it in the browser you actually order in.
Connect your accounts
Open the RxMargin dashboard and sign in. A card appears above the search box with a button for each wholesaler. Click Connect AAH, and your browser asks whether to let the extension see the AAH site. Say yes, and your usual AAH sign-in page opens in a new tab. Sign in there exactly as you do every morning. Then do the same for Alliance.
You are signing in to your wholesaler, on your wholesaler's own site, in your own browser. Nobody at RxMargin is involved in that step, and nobody at RxMargin ever needs those details.
On AAH and Trident, run one search
While you are on the wholesaler's site, search for something you would normally order. That single search is what teaches the extension where that wholesaler keeps the prices for your account. AAH and Trident need it; Alliance, PSUK, Clarity and Sigma do not, and signing in is enough for those four. After that it looks after itself, quietly and slowly, in the background.
Go back to the RxMargin tab and your own prices start landing in that wholesaler's column, marked as yours. The first few minutes are the slowest, because it is reading your busiest lines first.
What leaves your computer, and what does not
The whole reason this is a browser extension rather than something on our servers is that a browser extension does not need your logins and does not need your prices. It reads what your own screen can already see.
- Your usernames and passwords never leave your PC. They are typed into the wholesaler's own site, exactly as they are today. The extension never asks for them, never reads them and never stores them, and we could not see them if we wanted to.
- We never see your prices. Your account prices are read by your own browser, from your own signed-in session, and are held on your own computer. They are never sent to RxMargin. They are used to redraw your screen, and for nothing else.
- It talks to your wholesalers and no one else. AAH, Alliance, PSUK, Trident, Clarity and Sigma, and each one only after you have connected it. It carries no analytics and no trackers, and it asks for no permission it does not use.
- Prices stay on the machine that read them. If two people at the practice want their own prices on screen, each of them installs it on their own computer.
- Uninstalling takes it all with it. Remove the extension and the columns go straight back to national prices, and the prices it had stored go with it.
What happens when something fails
Every failure lands in the same safe place: the national picture, labelled as the national picture. There is deliberately no state in which a cell shows a figure we are not sure of.
- Signed out of the wholesaler, or the site is having a bad morning: nothing new is read, the prices already on your computer stand, and anything it cannot price shows as national.
- A line has no price on your account: that cell stays national and is marked national. It is never quietly filled in with something close.
- A reading comes back empty: it is thrown away rather than written over prices that were good.
- The extension is not installed, or you have not connected it: the dashboard is exactly the page everybody else sees, with nothing missing and nothing broken.
A polite guest on your wholesaler's site
The extension reads at a walking pace: one request at a time, a deliberate gap between each, a hard daily ceiling, and an immediate stop the moment a wholesaler asks it to slow down or wait. It never signs you in, never signs you out, and never reads anything you could not see yourself by clicking around while logged in.
Questions we get asked
Does it cost anything?
No. RxMargin is free, and so is the extension. Practices pay us nothing for any of it, and connecting your accounts does not change that.
Do you want my wholesaler login?
No, and please never send it to us or to anyone else. The whole design exists so that we do not need it. If anybody claiming to be from RxMargin asks you for a portal password, that is not us.
Will my wholesaler object?
It reads your own account pages, which you are entitled to see, from your own signed-in session, one request at a time with a daily ceiling. If your wholesaler would rather you did not, uninstall it and everything returns to national prices.
Does everyone at the practice need it?
No. Only the machine you look at the dashboard on. Prices are held on that computer, so each person who wants their own prices on screen installs it themselves.
Can you add my other wholesalers?
AAH, Alliance, PSUK, Trident, Clarity and Sigma are the six built so far, and the extension is built so that adding another is one more connector rather than a rewrite. Tell us which one matters most to you and it goes on the list.
What does it do with the rest of my browsing?
Nothing. It has no access to any site except the wholesalers you connect and the RxMargin dashboard itself, and no way to ask for more without your browser telling you.
Everything on RxMargin works without this. The dashboard is free, and looking up a drug needs no account, no sign-in and no extension. Connecting your accounts changes one thing only: whose prices those columns are showing.
